Award Information

KAHPERD award nominees should send final paperwork electronically to Kathy Wagner at kathywagner@wcsks.com by August 1, 2011.  Information received after the deadline will not be counted for this year's awards.  Any teacher of the year candidate must be sure to fill out the appropriate paperwork from the affiliated national organization.

2. Colleges and Universities whose department chair is submitting names for the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Major of the Year may now select two students.  One of the student major award recipients is required to be in the field of teaching.  A letter of recommendation and picture of the recipients must be sent to Kathy Wagner, awards chair, at kathywagner@wcsks.com by September 1, 2011.  Please visit the KAHPERD awards page for requirements for all nominees. Paperwork received after the deadline can not be considered.

3. The department chair from each colleges and universities may also submit paperwork for the outstanding graduate major of the year in the fields of research and teaching.  One recipient from each of the two graduate fields will be selected from all the nominees.  Please visit the KAHPERD awards page for requirements for all nominees.  All paperwork must be sent to Kathy Wagner at kathywagner@wcsks.com by September 1, 2011.  Paperwork received after the deadline can not be considered.

KAHPERD Awards and Recognition

Each year KAHPERD honors individuals for meritorious service in the field of HPERD. Your assistance in identifying such individuals who are deserving of such recognition and who qualify for an award is needed. All award nominations and supporting materials should be sent by August 1, 2010 to:

KAHPERD Award Nomination Form

 

To nominate an individual for an award:

Make sure the person meets all the requirements for the award you intend to nominate him/her for.

Notify the person that you are nominating to confirm they want to go through the nomination process.  There is often paperwork that the nominee is required to complete.

The nominator should fill out the required nomination form (Kathy – can you link the nomination form to this statement?) and make sure that any other required, supplementary paperwork is sent by August 1, 2011, to Kathy Wagner, at the above address.

If the award requires an application process (i.e. NASPE Teachers of the Year, Adapted Teacher of the Year, Health Educator of the Year), send the paperwork to the nominated individual immediately so they can meet the August 1, 2011, deadline.  If an application is required, a web link is listed below the award description.

Check back with the person that you nominated to make sure they are filling out paperwork or providing letters of recommendation, if required.  Remind them of the August 1, 2011, deadline.  Materials must be received by this date to be considered for the award.

Wayne Osness Honor Award

  • Must be a member of KAHPERD for a minimum of 10 years
  • Must demonstrate leadership in the profession and made significant contribution to the profession

Recreation Professional

  • Must have a minimum of five years of experience as a leader in the recreation field
  • To nominate someone for the Recreation Professional Award:

    2. Provide at least two letters of support from an administrator, colleague, parent, etc.
    3. Provide teaching history, service to community, contribution to the field of dance, and/or other important information about the nominee pertaining to the award


Dance Educator of the Year

  • Must be an elementary, middle, senior high or college teacher with a minimum of three years of dance teaching experience and a member of KAHPERD for at least 3 years
  • To nominate someone for the Dance Educator of the Year Award:
    1. Fill out the nomination form
    2. Provide at least two letters of support from an administrator, colleague, parent, etc.
    3. Provide teaching history, service to community, contribution to the field of dance, and/or other important information about the nominee pertaining to the award



Health Education Professional

  • Must have five years of experience in a health related area
  • Must be a member of KAHPERD for a minimum of 3 years

Adapted Physical Educator of the Year

  • Must have 5 years of experience in the field of adapted physical education with demonstrated leadership and service to the profession.  A special form is required to apply for this award.

  • These awards are broken down into elementary, middle and secondary sections.  Nominated physical educators must have taught for at least 5 years. Special forms are required to apply for these awards.  Application for TOY (NASPE Application)

  • Must be nominated by a KAHPERD member for continuous support of HPERD
  • To nominate someone for an Administrator Award:
    1. Fill out the nomination form
    2. The nominator should write a letter describing the administrator’s role in supporting physical education
    3. Provide an additional letter from a colleague or parent that describes the administrators role in supporting physical education.
