20007 KAHPERD Awards

For several years KAHPERD has recognized outstanding teaching and professional involvement by selecting and honoring teachers and/or professionals of the year in several categories. In most instances, those receiving such recognition advance for similar honors in the Central District AHPERD and then on to the national awards at AAHPERD.

 

Members are encouraged to honor and recognize their colleagues by nominating those qualified for a KAHPERD award. Nominations can be made online, or you can print out the form and mail the form with a letter of recommendation to the address provided. Please note that each award needs three support letters in addition to the nomination letter. In order to be considered for any of these awards, a person must be a KAHPERD member.

 

After receiving the names of potential nominees, each nominee will be asked to document his/her professional success in a formal application that will be sent to them. To be eligible for competition beyond the state level, award recipients must be members of the American Alliance for HPERD.

Awards Categories and Criteria

 

Each year KAHPERD honors individuals for meritorious service in the field of HPERD. Your assistance in identifying such individuals who are deserving of such recognition and who qualify for an award is needed. All award nominations and supporting materials should be sent by August 1, 2008 to:

Wayne Osness Honor Award

    • Must be a member of KAHPERD for a minimum of 10 years
    • Must demonstrate leadership in the profession and made significant contribution to the profession

     

    Vicki Worrell Service Award

      • Must be a member of KAHPERD for a minimum of 5 years
      • Must have shown leadership in KAHPERD and/or related programs

       

      Young Professional Award

        • Must have shown exemplary leadership in one of the areas of our profession
        • Must be a member of KAHPERD for less than 5 years

         

        Recreation Professional

        • Must have a minimum of five years of experience as a leader in the recreation field

         

        Dance Educator of the Year

        • Must be an elementary, middle, senior high or college teacher with a minimum of three years of dance teaching experience and a member of KAHPERD for at least 3 years

         

        Health Education Professional

        • Must have five years of experience in a health related area
        • Must be a member of KAHPERD for a minimum of 3 years

         

        Adapted Physical Educator of the Year

        • Must have 5 years of experience in the field of adapted physical education with demonstrated leadership and service to the profession.  A special form is required to apply for this award. 

         

        NASPE Teacher of the Year

        • These awards are broken down into elementary, middle and secondary sections.  Nominated physical educators must have taught for at least 5 years. Special forms are required to apply for these awards. 

         

        Administrator Awards

        • Must be nominated by a KAHPERD member for continuous support of HPERD

         

        Pathfinder Award

        Must have made a significant contribution to girls and women in sport.   

         

        Outstanding Student Major Awards

         

        Outstanding Undergraduate Major Award

        • Must be a junior or senior HPERD Major
        • Must be a member of KAHPERD
        • Must be nominated by a university professor

         

        Outstanding Graduate Major Award

        • Must provide a resume (2 page limit)
        • Must provide 2 letters of recommendation
        • Must be a member of KAHPERD

        Jump Rope for Heart Award/ Hoops for Heart Award

          • Must have 5 accumulated years of JRFH/Hoops for Heart
          • Demonstrate evidence of a strong JFRH/Hoops for Heart community
