Donor FAQ

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. KanDoSM is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and the donor will receive a receipt for any contribution.

How do I know that my online donation is secure?

KanDoSM has established a secure payment procedure through PAYPAL. You can be assured that your credit information is safe at this site.

What if I still prefer to donate in the old fashioned way, with a check?

The donation feature lets donors decide between mailing a check or paying by credit card. Donors must select a proposal online, but the donation itself can be made offline.

How do I know that teachers’ proposals are sound, and that materials will be used as promised?

First, the staff verifies that the physical educator does, in fact, work at the school he/she listed; confirms the existence of the materials requested; negotiates possible discounts and attaches a cost; and, finally, reviews the body of the proposal. If there are any uncertainties, the staff will e-mail or phone the teacher follow-up questions. Proposals will be acted on within 7 working days. A typical grant program would send the teacher a check, and require that he/she buy and deliver the materials, compile receipts, and compose a detailed report. When a proposal is funded, KanDoSM negotiates purchases the materials and has them delivered to the physical educator’s school. KanDoSM also sends each educator a disposable camera. This camera will be used to take pictures of the “students in action” using the purchased equipment and the teacher and students working with the outcomes of the project. In addition a stamped envelope is sent to the physical educator so that s/he can put in the photographs, student thank-you notes, and a teacher letter. Upon receiving this information, KanDoSM attaches receipts, and forwards this package to the donor.

How do I know that my donation went toward the project I chose, and that it’s not going toward overhead?

In addition to sending the donor photographs and student/teacher thank-you notes from the sponsored project, staff attaches receipts for the purchases of materials. KanDoSM does perform a great deal of work on each proposal, so donors are invited to add 15% for our administration—but that is optional (as well as being a fraction of typical charitable administration costs.)
